Write an analysis of The Giving Tree using your notes and one of your lenses.

In The Giving Tree, women are given the role of willingly sacrificing everything that completes them to make the men happy. At first, the tree nurtures the boy, playing with him and giving him everything that he could want. The little boy is only satisfied as a child and when he is very old. The tree is happy throughout the story, however, and is only sad when the boy is gone. The Giving Tree portrays the idea that women can only be happy while they give to men. When the boy grows older, he gets more demanding, and takes first the apples, then the branches, and finally the trunk itself of the tree that raised him. The tree is no longer a tree, and simply becomes a wallet for the boy to take from. The tree has nothing left because of the boy's greed, yet she is still happy to become a chair to the man when he gets old. Only when the boy has nothing left to want does he finally stop exploiting the tree. The tree is happy to be exploited, and is only happy when the boy is there to demand more of her. When the boy is gone and the tree can grow back and recover, instead she wishes that the boy comes back so that she can give him more.
